The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is the senior appointed official for the City of Timmins, providing organizational leadership to all municipal staff.

The Chief Administrative Officer has the responsibility of coordinating the work of all municipal departments and ensuring that those departments carry out policies and directions given by Mayor and Council. The CAO’s position acts as the principal advisor to Council in the development of public policy, including ensuring that Council is provided with all relevant information necessary to make informed decisions.

The Chief Administrative Officer oversees day-to-day operations for the City through nine (9) Department Heads and coordinates the administrative interaction with various operating agencies such as Police Services, the Public Library, Timmins Economic Development Corporation and the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority.

The CAO’s office has an Administrative Assistant who fulfills the administrative direction as assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer, and performs the various secretarial functions for this office.

A Welcoming Message from Dave Landers, Chief Administrative Officer

Dear Residents & Visitors:

We encourage you to visit us often, as new information and events are added on a regular basis. Through public consultation and a Service Delivery and Operational Review, we are also taking significant steps to improve services and amenities, and are actively exploring the potential for a new Aquatic Centre – all tying into various strategies to increase tourism and recreation, improve long-term housing, diversify our economy and ensure a sustainable future.

Exciting things continue to happen in our great City, drawing attention and recognition from far outside our tree line. The City of Timmins has been recognized by Expedia.ca as one of the top 17 Canadian cities to visit in 2017 – highlighting the Stars and Thunder – Timmins International Fireworks Competition & Music Festival. However, this is just one of the wonderful things to do while living in or visiting our community. While best known for our rich mining history, Timmins truly offers something for everyone, from fine resorts with local flare, to exceptional outdoor recreation. We are also a proud member of Attractions Ontario, and have been recognized by Festivals & Events Ontario who has ranked our Great Canadian Kayak Challenge & Festival in their Top 100.

We take great pride in our multi-cultural community and aptitude in the arts – showcased through privately owned galleries, our own Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre, and local bands, which captivate the crowds every week during our Summer Concert Series.

Our Timmins 2020 Strategic Plan has outlined many great initiatives which have, or are quickly taking shape. The “I’m In” branding campaign is being used by various organizations within the community, and we encourage everyone to embrace the brand as a symbol of community pride. We’ve also been successful in the development of a two-way communications and engagement campaign through the use of social media (don’t forget to like and follow The City of Timmins on Facebook), and a single community calendar has been developed thanks to our partners at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce.
