Timmins, ON Today, the City’s 100th Community Anniversary unveiled the label designs chosen for this year’s 4 anniversary wines. Diamond Estates has agreed to support 4 different labels for the 4 brands of wines with each label inspired and designed by the mother – daughter team of Gayle and Brooke Ballantyne. The 2012 designs incorporate watercolour prints of work done by local artist Gayle Ballantyne and include northern lights for the Unoaked Chardonnay, Hollinger Park skyline for the Pinot Grigio, a birch bark canoe for the Cabernet Shiraz and finally a row of red & green Hollinger Houses on the Black Cab.
According to Mayor Laughren, Chair of the Anniversary Committee “the wines not only commemorate our many milestones but contribute to the creation of lasting memories. Diamond Estates has agreed to provide the City with a 50 cent donation for each bottle sold. This money will be re-invested towards the planning of 100th anniversary activities or support a legacy project, forever immortalizing these milestones.”
Mayor Laughren encourages all licensed establishments of the City to carry the 100th anniversary wines, and to promote their availability. “Your support of this initiative will help the City increase wine sales during the last year of our four year celebration. This will in turn increase our profit margin from the anniversary wine project. By providing this superb selection of commemorative wines, you will be paying tribute to our past, demonstrate a commitment to the future of our community, while allowing your customers and colleagues to toast their great City with a wine as rich as its heritage” added Mayor Laughren.

Our municipality owes its existence to the initiative and efforts of prospectors by the names of Harry Preston, Sandy McIntyre and Benny Hollinger, who in the early 1900′s discovered gold. Financiers Noah and Henry Timmins were responsible for the development of the Hollinger Mine and, thus, the name Timmins came to the forefront and has been our proud designation ever since.
