April 30, 2018 – On Friday, April 20, the Golden Manor Home for the Aged hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon for Volunteer Week, which was April 15-21, 2018.

Approximately 100 volunteers were in attendance for the event. The celebration was in recognition of the 157 volunteers who provided 1,303 individual volunteer hours, and 2,949 volunteer driver hours, dedicated to the Golden Manor in 2017.

“Our volunteers are valued members of our team, and help or enrich the lives of residents at the Golden Manor through their involvement in many events and activities,” said Golden Manor Administrator Carol Halt. “Our activities are successful because of our team of volunteers who dedicate their time to our residents and our Home.”

Volunteer initiatives include:

  • The Tuck Shop, which is a popular gathering place is kept open for several hours each day by volunteers;
  • Volunteer drivers commit their time to transporting seniors in the community to medical, dental and other appointments;
  • On a weekly basis, the Special Event volunteers run bingo and socials;
  • Pastoral volunteers coordinate mass as well as other spiritual activities, and a Eucharistic team gives communion to our residents;
  • Our residents also enjoy visits from trained service dogs from the community;
  • Once a month, a birthday party for residents is hosted by a different community club.

We continue to expand our network of partnerships with local schools, service clubs and businesses, who give of their time to our residents. Our Family Council meets monthly to discuss issues related to the Home, and to organize initiatives which will improve the quality of life for our residents. The Resident Council also  meets regularly and brings forth ideas, suggestions and concerns to the leadership team, as well as provides input to new programs, policy and initiatives.
