April 19, 2017 – The City of Timmins is grateful to be receiving provincial and federal grant funding from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and Canadian Heritage.
Stars and Thunder – Timmins International Fireworks Competition and Festival is amongst 304 festivals and events across the province to receive funding through Celebrate Ontario 2017. The $11,500 will be extremely beneficial in helping Timmins celebrate Canada and Ontario’s 150th birthday in style.
“The Government of Ontario recognizes that festivals and events like yours help build a strong economy and vibrant communities, attract tourists and contribute to job creation,”
said Minister Eleanor McMahon in a letter to City representatives.
“Local festivals and events bring communities together and offer Ontario families and visitors another reason to explore our wonderful province.”
The Timmins festival will also receive $100,000 with a fixed repayment of 30% or $30,000 from the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund (OCAF).
The Festival will also be receiving some federal support, with a grant for $9,000 from the Minister of Canadian Heritage, under the Celebration and Commemoration Program, Celebrate Canada Component.
“We are very excited and extremely honoured to have been approved for these grants by our Provincial and Federal Governments,”
said Mayor Steve Black.
“This is such a wonderful show of support and a true testament to all the hard work we’ve put in to make this one of the biggest and most successful festivals across the country in celebration of Ontario and Canada’s 150th birthday.”
The City has submitted several additional grant applications which are currently under review, and hopes to make more announcements in the near future.
