Today, Timmins Transit announced plans to host a Customer Appreciation Day on November 4, 2011.
According to Catherine Verreault, Manager, Transit Operations, “the Customer Appreciation Day is a great opportunity to recognize and thank our valued customers and welcome new riders to Timmins Transit, the affordable convenient and environmentally-friendly alternative to driving a car.”
The customer appreciation event also provides transit staff an opportunity to educate the public about transit services and to provide them with timely information such as route maps and detailed schedules. On November 4th all transit fares will be waived.
The Customer Appreciation Day will coincide with an official ribbon cutting ceremony
marking the completion of extensive renovations to the Ontario Northland Bus Terminal, a facility purchased by the City of Timmins January 2010 . The Official Ribbon Cutting ceremony will take place November 4th at 1pm with City of Timmins and Timmins Transit officials on hand to mark the occasion. Refreshments will be available from 1 to 2pm.
The newly refurbished facility is proving popular with transit riders. The enhancements have heightened safety and security for users especially at night and the off street loading and unloading of passengers is seen as a welcomed addition to the overall transit experience.
The Timmins Transit terminal is also home to Ontario Northland Bus Services and Bus Parcel Express. The centralized transit operation has benefited those passengers wishing to transfer between the two services.
“We are committed to providing safe, reliable and affordable transportation solutions to the residents of Timmins and visitors to the city. The partnership between the City and Ontario Northland has allowed us to make travel more convenient for our mutual passengers while at the same time, realizing cost efficiencies that contribute to our goal of maintaining affordable services” added Mayor Tom Laughren.
“This year we have many successes to celebrate with our valued transit users: increased ridership, new additions to our fleet of buses, and the acquisition and renovations to this building and the grounds are reasons to celebrate. This is a win- win for the City of Timmins, Ontario Northland and our customers” concluded Mark Jensen, Director Transit Services.

Our municipality owes its existence to the initiative and efforts of prospectors by the names of Harry Preston, Sandy McIntyre and Benny Hollinger, who in the early 1900′s discovered gold. Financiers Noah and Henry Timmins were responsible for the development of the Hollinger Mine and, thus, the name Timmins came to the forefront and has been our proud designation ever since.
