Mushkegowuk Cup 2019 coming to Timmins
February 21, 2019 - Fostering healthy lifestyles, unity and personal development, the 12th Annual Mushkegowuk Cup will once again be held in the City of Timmins.

On behalf of the Mushkegowuk Council of Chiefs, Grand Chief Jonathon Solomon is pleased to announce the tournament is taking place in Timmins from February 22 to 24, 2019 – endorsed annually by the Mamowihitowin of the Omushkegowuk (annual general assembly for the Mushkegowuk region).

“Hockey continues to be a sport of high interest and a good part of our Cree lifestyle, and the upcoming Mushkegowuk Cup 2019 will demonstrate this,” said Mushkegowuk Council’s Special Projects Coordinator Doug W. Cheechoo.

“The game of hockey has always brought people together, and we are happy to have so many people gather in our community to share in the love of the game,” added Timmins Mayor George Pirie. “We would like to welcome all the teams, as well as their families and fans, to Timmins and encourage our residents and businesses to show all our visitors why we are the City with a Heart of Gold.”

Mushkegowuk Cup 2019 is anticipated to include 52 teams who will be coming from the Mushkegowuk First Nations and from the Eeyou Istchee (Quebec Cree) communities. Accompanying all the teams will be hundreds of family members and fans who will travel to Timmins to cheer on their team. It is estimated that more than 2,500 hockey enthusiasts will converge in Timmins for the Mushkegowuk Cup 2019.
