Council grants authority to waive penalties and interest

March 25, 2020 - On Tuesday, March 24, Timmins City Council voted in favour of waiving penalties and interest on tax payments, with the intent of assisting taxpayers who may be struggling financially during this uncertain time.

“WHEREAS the COVID-19 public health situation is having an economic impact on the livelihood of residents and businesses in the City of Timmins

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the City of Timmins hereby authorizes the Treasurer to waive interest fees, charges and penalties on property taxes and water and sewer for the duration of the crisis.”

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, actual taxes paid through the Pre-Authorized Payment Plan and post-dated cheques are still being processed. Any resident requiring payment deferrals who are signed up for these two forms of payments should contact City Hall to request being removed for the duration specified by the resident.

The City of Timmins will continue to provide services to residents.

Questions, concerns or request for service can be directed through Service Timmins at service.timmins.ca or by calling 705-264-1331.
