Timmins Councillor demonstrates climate leadership
August 18, 2020 - City of Timmins Ward 5 Councillor Kristin Murray is one of 93 elected officials across the country selected to participate in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Climate Leadership program for elected officials.

A release from the FCM states: “The elected officials selected to participate have already demonstrated local climate leadership and come from communities of all sizes across Canada.”

There is no contesting of the FCM’s choice from Council or Administration at the City, who support Murray’s enthusiasm and collaborations.

“This is an excellent opportunity for additional learning from other climate change leaders across Canada,” said Murray. “As I move through the course, I intend to work with council, administration and our environmental services team in implementing additional climate change strategies and initiatives.”

Since taking her seat at the Council table in October 2018, Murray has championed a phased-in approach to eliminate single-use plastics within the corporation and taken great interest and involvement in the work of environmental services.

“I am confident that Kristin will represent us well with FCM, take in everything the Climate Leadership program has to offer, and share that knowledge with her colleagues here in Timmins,” said Mayor George Pirie. “She will certainly enjoy and benefit from the experience.”
