City Offering COVID Support
There is a tragedy unfolding in the Town of Kapuskasing and Mayor George Pirie would like to express his support to Mayor Dave Ploudre, Council as well as the residents of Kapuskasing.

“This has been a difficult start to the year for Kapuskasing.  With sixteen deaths at the Extendicare facility, the City of Timmins would like to offer our condolences to the loved ones and friends of those who have passed.  This battle isn’t over and we will continue to assist in whatever capacity we can”, said Mayor Pirie.

“I would also like to acknowledge the help provided to Extendicare from the staff at the Timmins and District Hospital.  This assistance was welcomed, as evidenced by the attached letter of thanks from Mayor Dave Plourde.  Kapuskasing is a sister community in our region and this goes to show that we can work together during these difficult times.”

According to Extendicare, “We are working with the team from Timmins and District Hospital to bolster our existing infection control practices, including ongoing education and training of our environmental / cleaning staff and deep cleaning of resident rooms. We remain thankful the Timmins and District Hospital team is onsite, lending their direct expertise in this regard. We continue with audits on all shifts, and with screening of everyone coming into our home at our front entrance.”

“These are unprecedented times that call for drastic measures”, said Mayor Pirie.  “I am pleased to hear the City of Timmins and the Timmins and District Hospital have offered a helping hand to our neighboring community.  We all have one goal and that is to keep our communities safe and healthy”, said Mayor Pirie.  “By working together, we can achieve that goal.”
