COVID-19: Local partners need input from business community
April 20, 2020 - The City of Timmins and the Chamber’s Joint Business Continuity and Recovery Advisory Task Force is seeking your input around current and expected impacts to local organizations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Feedback from local firms will be essential to help us understand and communicate organizational needs to all levels of government,” stressed Mayor George Pirie. “It will also guide the task force members on what course of action they should be taking to help local firms during and after the pandemic. We are asking that the organization’s owner, manager, and/or director complete this survey.”

The survey will be conducted on a monthly basis and the results will be collected by the Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) on behalf of the task force.

“Our most crucial resource is information,” noted TEDC Board Chair Fred Gibbons. “In order to understand the effects of the pandemic on our local economy, we need businesses and non-profits to share their experience.”

Members of the business community may be asked to complete the survey by various partners, but we ask that organizations complete it only once a month. The first monthly survey was launched today, April 20, 2020 and will close on April 26, 2020. The information will be presented in aggregate form to maintain survey participant confidentiality.

Val Venneri, president of the Chamber says “now, more than ever, we are working together to support the Timmins business community. Our task force is meeting weekly to share information and resources, and discuss the best ways to provide our firms with assistance. We have developed a central source of information on programs for businesses which is housed on the Chamber’s website.”

“Our business community is facing significant challenges,” added Jamie Roach, president of the Downtown Timmins Business Improvement Association (BIA). “We’ve heard from many of our members who have been forced to lay off staff or shutdown entirely. Our goal is to support these firms during these times and ensure they reopen once the pandemic is over.”
