Segment Five of Connecting Link Construction Underway
The City of Timmins is pleased to announce that construction on Segment Five of the Connecting Link is now underway.

Segment 5 of the Connecting Link will see road improvements along Algonquin Blvd. West between Mattagami Blvd. South and Theriault Blvd. This is the first downtown segment and includes full-depth reconstruction of the roadway, replacement of underground services like water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, and pole relocation.

The work will be extensive and as construction proceeds all local traffic and cyclists will be detoured down Mattagami Blvd. South to Wilson Ave. with trucks re-directed along Shirley St. to Lafleur Dr. and on to Laforest Rd. before reaching Hwy. 655. Detour signs will be clearly visible. We are asking motorists to proceed with caution when traveling through any and all construction areas, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

“We know that construction can be disruptive and we’re taking measures to make sure the detour allows for consistent traffic flow and keeps vehicles moving,” says Public Works Manager Ken Krcel. “Temporary traffic signals will be installed at Wilson Ave. and Cameron St. We’ve also looked at the one-way section of Mattagami Blvd. South and know that it is wide enough for two-lanes of traffic during the construction period.”

The full Segment 5 project includes 4 phases of construction. During the first phase, Mattagami Blvd. South will be fully closed to traffic between Algonquin Blvd. West and Wilson Ave. Algonquin Blvd. West will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
