The City of Timmins uses social media as a communication and engagement tool to connect with residents. Our corporate accounts are officially monitored Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays).

Terms of Use for the City of Timmins Social Media Sites

The City of Timmins official social media accounts are for the purpose of sharing municipal, event, and program information with the public.

They are administered by the City of Timmins Communications Department. We strive to respond to relevant questions and comments, but reserve the right to use our discretion in selecting the messages we respond to.

Our social media pages provide a space for civil and constructive discussion. We maintain "family standards" with a goal of creating a positive environment. We want all of our users to be able to express their opinions freely and enter into informed and productive discussion. While we want this to be an open and honest forum, the comments you leave should be constructive, helpful, or insightful. The City of Timmins will not engage in conversations that are of the following nature:

  •  Abusive, profane, derogatory, disrespectful, or offensive
  •  Slanderous or defamatory remarks or obscene language
  • Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, colour, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation.
  • Messages for advertising/marketing purpose
  • Messages that contain spam

The City of Timmins reserves the right to remove any comments that meet the criteria above or comments that are not directly related to the particular post or article. The City of Timmins also reserves the right to permanently ban individuals from commenting if a pattern of negative engagement is identified.

Please be advised that our social media pages are not monitored 24/7. We strive to respond to relevant questions and comments, but also reserve the right to use our discretion in selecting the messages we respond to.

The City of Timmins is not responsible for any use of material posted by users. We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time

In an attempt to limit messages that contain spam and negative interaction with accounts that are fraudulent or misrepresent someone else, the City of Timmins has implemented Facebook moderation rules:

  • Comments by an account without a profile picture will be automatically hidden
  • Comments by an account with no active friends/followers will be automatically hidden
  • Comments by an account that include profanity will be automatically hidden

At any time, comments on a post made by the City of Timmins may be turned off or limited to accounts that have followed the City's social media page for a period of more than 24 hours.
