The City of Timmins’ swimming pool facility at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex will be undergoing important maintenance and upgrades this summer to better serve the community. To complete these improvements, the pool will be temporarily closed during the months of July and August.
What’s happening? The City is making essential renovations to enhance user experience, including:
• redesigning and upgrading the front entrance to improve accessibility
• upgrading the lighting to ensure a brighter, more energy-efficient facility
• regrouting the pool for improved cleanliness and safety
While the pool is closed, our swim staff will keep the summer fun going! Swimming lessons will be offered at Gillies Lake Beach. The official opening of the Gillies Lake Beach is Saturday, June 28, 2025. Lifeguards will be on duty 7 days a week from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. in July and 12:00 - 7:00 p.m. in August.
Special community events and lifesaving courses will also be available throughout the summer. Stay tuned for updates on reopening dates and programming details by visiting: https://www.timmins.ca/our_services/recreation_services/swimming
The City appreciates the community’s understanding as we work to improve the community pool. These upgrades will help the City provide a more accessible, enjoyable, and safe environment for all.

Homeowners and businesses may experience short-term loss in water pressure or experience brown or rust-coloured water following the testing. It is recommended not to drink or wash laundry with the discoloured water. While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn off your tap for 10-20 minutes in order to allow the crew to complete the flushing. Once the flushing is completed and the work crew has left the area, turn on the COLD water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal.
Environmental Services Department would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this necessary process, and advises the public to direct any questions, concerns or requests for additional information to Service Timmins at 705-264-1331. After-hours emergencies should be directed to 705-264-1201.

Municipal wastewater consists of 99% water from stormwater and homes/businesses from washing, flushing etc. When a treatment plant or treatment process is overwhelmed, a bypass or overflow can occur. These events are often caused by heavy rainfall and/or snowmelt. During a by-pass or overflow, partially treated wastewater is diverted away from a treatment process to prevent backups, overflows or damage to the system.
Residents can help mitigate flows by delaying or limiting unnecessary usage such as laundry, shower length, dishwashing etc. during rain storms.
For more information please visit www.timmins.ca
City staff would like to thank residents for their assistance in reducing water usage during this time.
