The City of Timmins Public Works is declaring a Significant Weather Event effective Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 12:01 a.m. and issued under the provisions of the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (O.Reg 239).

According to a Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada, conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight with the possibility of 5 to 10 cm of snow or ice pellets, changing to freezing rain on Wednesday morning with ice accretion possible. Strong winds gusts may occur up to 60 km/h and surfaces such as highways, roads, and parking lots may become slippery.

Based on this forecast, we anticipate delays in the plowing and sanding/salting of some city streets and roads along with city sidewalks. Uncertainty remains regarding the track of this weather system, which could change the location of the freezing rain and snowfall amounts. City resources will be deployed when deemed appropriate and when safe to do so.

We also remind residents that the Winter Parking Ban is in effect and parking on the street is not permitted on any day, between the hours of 11:30 pm to 7:30 am, from November 1 through April 30 unless otherwise posted. Residents are also reminded that City BYLAW 1993-4162 does not allow a person to place snow from a person’s property onto the road or sidewalk.

We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. An additional notice will be posted to declare the end of the Significant Weather Event. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

The City of Timmins Environmental Services & Public Utilities department wishes to advise the Public of an emergency water infrastructure repair affecting water quality for Westmount Blvd between Churchill St and Eyre Blvd. This is schedule to start immediately today Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 9:00am approximately 9:00pm.

  • All homes and businesses in the affected area could be without water for a few hours as well colored water and lower than normal water pressures

Homeowners in that area may experience brown or rust-colored water during the schedule water maintenance. It is recommended not to drink or wash laundry with the discolored water. While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn on the COLD water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water color has returned to normal.

City staff would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this work.

The City of Timmins Public Works is declaring a Significant Weather Event under the provisions of the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (O.Reg 239).

Due to the winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada and modeling with the amount of snow forecasted, we are anticipating delays in the plowing of some city streets and roads along with most city sidewalks. City resources will be deployed when deemed appropriate.

Environment Canada is predicting a major winter storm with snow, heavy at times, and local blowing snow expected to begin tonight and continuing through Friday before tapering off Saturday evening. Potential hazards include:
• Snowfall amounts of 30 to 50 cm
• Gusty northeasterly winds resulting in blowing snow and reduced visibility

Environment Canada advises residents to consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Weather may also impact Timmins Transit service. Delays and/or cancellation of services may occur. Updates will be shared via the City website and social media.

An additional notice will be posted to declare the end of the Significant Weather Event when the municipality determines is it appropriate to do so.
