Bell Let’s Talk Day is Thursday, January 28 and the City of Timmins is joining in to help drive progress in mental health.

COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our lives, including our mental health. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 38% of Canadians say their mental health has declined due to COVID-19, and people already struggling with their mental health were 2 times more likely to say their mental health has declined due to the pandemic.

“Now, more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves and each other”, said Mayor Pirie.  “Mental health is a big challenge in the City of Timmins.  We need to extend our support to those living with mental illness.  We also need to show our support for those in the field, day in and day out, helping the individuals.  This is something that affects us all as a community.”

This year’s Bell Let’s Talk Day campaign shines a light on the actions that we can all take, because mental health matters. Whether we are staying virtually connected with a family member, working directly with patients in recovery, investing in access to care or even just taking care of your own mental health, everyone can play a part in their communities, workplaces, schools and at home.

The City of Timmins and the Downtown Timmins BIA are excited to announce the purchase of the former Tweed & Hickory and Bucovetsky’s location at 227 Third Avenue, to Things Engraved and Bloomex.

Mona Beckman, COO, Things Engraved and Bloomex Retail Division, said are they pleased to expand their business into Timmins.  Bloomex is an international leader in the floral business with locations in North America, Australia and has expansion plans to several other countries in the near future.  Things Engraved was recently acquired and added to their business portfolio and they specialize in personalized gift giving.  Ms. Beckmann advised that they “believe that amalgamating these two companies will make them the Pioneer in Gift Giving and Wedding Category”.

Their vision is to create a multi-retail shopping experience influenced by the European Market concept, all under one roof: home décor, personalized apparel, wedding boutique, floral, Garden Centre and more.

Plans are being finalized to commence renovations in late 2021 and are expected to take a year.  The goal is to bring the historic building back to its former glory.  It is expected that approximately 20 people will be hired to ensure the successful operation of this new business.
