Municipal Service Corporation - City Seeking Public Input

Background

As part of its long-term planning and growth strategy, the City of Timmins is exploring the creation of a Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) to support housing development and drive key economic initiatives in the community.

A Municipal Services Corporation is created by a municipality to manage current and future City-owned services and assets under authority of section 203(1) of the Municipal Act, 2001. The proposed MSC would be owned by the City of Timmins and governed by a board of directors appointed by City Council.

The MSC would serve as a tool to help the City advance strategic projects like the Melrose Heights subdivision expansion by allowing the municipality to develop land and generate stronger return on investment for the taxpayer. The MSC can also be used to meet broader municipal priorities that attract investment in commercial and industrial areas to support industry and local employment.

Public Input

Before establishing a Municipal Services Corporation, the City must adopt a business case study and consult with the public on the proposal. Public feedback will help inform Council as it considers next steps regarding the potential establishment of the corporation.

Residents who wish to share comments regarding the proposed MSC can submit feedback by email to: [email protected].

Feedback will be collected until March 18, 2026.
