The City of Timmins Environmental Services department wishes to advise the public of hydrant flushing / watermain cleaning activities in the following areas:

  • City crews will be flushing hydrants on Polaris Rd., O’Neil Ave., and Carlin Ave.
  • Time of Disruption: July 26, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Homeowners and businesses in the area may experience short-term loss in water pressure or experience brown or rust-coloured water following the testing. Once flushing is complete and the work crew has left the area, turn on the COLD water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal.

The City would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this necessary process, and advise that if there are any questions, concerns or requests for additional information, they may contact the Service Timmins at 705-264-1331.  After-hours emergencies should be directed to 705-264-1201.

Reduced load restrictions for commercial motor vehicles and trailers will be lifted as of Friday, June 2, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. on applicable roads within the city of Timmins.

Due to on-going construction, commercial motor vehicles are required to use the standard truck detour along Shirley St. to Laforest Rd. and Hwy. 655. The removal of half-load restrictions does not change or alter the approved truck detour route for construction along Riverside Dr. and Algonquin Blvd. Roadways like Jaguar Dr., Government Rd. and Sandy Falls Rd. are not designated as truck routes, and road conditions can deteriorate quickly from repeated heavy truck traffic.

By-law 2006-6275 governs load restrictions to protect our roads and highways during the spring thaw, when damage is most likely to happen. Typically, reduced load restrictions are in place until mid-June and are subject to the provisions of Section 122 of the Highway Traffic Act RSO 1990 Chapter H 8.”

The by-law (https://timmins.civicweb.net/filepro/documents/258?preview=7545) provides a list of the applicable roads under Schedule A.

Please be advised that Riverside Dr. between Shirley St. and Government Rd. has now been reduced to one lane in each direction, with traffic moved to the outside curb lanes while contractors begin work on Segment 2 of the Connecting Link.

In Segment 2 of the Connecting Link, work will be completed west of the Shirley St. intersection to Government Rd. In addition to stripping existing pavement, grading and compacting the base, and re-applying a fresh layer of asphalt, work will include installation of a cement sidewalk between Shirley St. and the Government Rd. intersection.

All access points and entries to roads and businesses along Riverside Dr. will be maintained throughout construction.
Motorists can expect delays and traffic congestion. Commercial vehicle trucks will still use the Shirley St. turn to connect with the standard truck detour along Laforest Rd. Some pavement milling in the outside curb lanes will be carried out to smooth entry points into adjacent roads and business entries.

Rehabilitation of the City’s Connecting Link is important work to improve major road infrastructure for Timmins. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as construction is completed.

The City of Timmins would like to advise the public that work on the Crawford St./Ferguson Rd. watermain extension will be begin Monday, May 16 until August, 2023. The project will provide reliable drinking water and fire flows for all businesses and private residences east of Crawford St.

Currently, a single line supplies water to 1,180 water services and fire hydrants to the eastern limits of the City's distribution system. When this main is compromised, flow in the area is limited. The installation of 1,275m of new watermain will provide new services for the properties adjacent to the new main and a new fire hydrant for fire suppression.

Work will be done in small sections with minor lane reductions around the work area. Traffic controls will be in place and drivers are asked to slow down when proceeding through the work zone. The City does not anticipate any disruption to water service while the new line is being installed.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation while we complete this necessary work.
