The City’s Sewer Lining and Manhole Rehabilitation project is underway and will be on-going until the end of August 2023.
The Engineering Department is advising the residents that we will have crews investigating various sewer main systems within the City of Timmins. Camera trucks and vacuum trucks will be onsite. Residents should be aware they may hear gurgling sounds coming from their toilet or sinks.

Sanitary sewer relining is a cost-effective way to extend the life of aging infrastructure, minimize long-term maintenance costs, and avoid costly excavation of roads and property.

During the installation of the new liner, you may notice an odor similar to fiberglass. This odor, if detected, is coming from your service (the connection that runs between your house and sewer main) through, in most cases, a dried out drain trap. It is a common occurrence and can be avoided by pouring water into the basement floor drains or any other location (laundry or tub) that may not be in regular use. Pouring water or placing a wet cloth into these locations will prevent the odor from accumulating in your home. Please note that the odor is not harmful to your health.

The following areas will be affected:

  • Balsam St. N and S
  • Elm St.
  • Grant St.
  • Sixth Ave.
  • Fifth Ave.
  • Toke St.
  • Hemlock St.
  • Tamarack St.
  • Cedar St. N
  • Maple St. N
  • Spruce St. N
  • Dome Ave.
  • Dwyer Ave.
  • Vipond Rd.
  • Templeton Ave.
  • Fourth Ave.
  • Les Hall St.
  • Boundary LN.
  • Battachio St.
  • Croatia Ave.

Traffic controls will be in place and drivers are asked to slow down when proceeding through the work zone.
If you have any further questions, Service Timmins is available to help, by phone at 705-264-1331 or in-person during regular business hours at City Hall.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we complete this necessary work.

The City of Timmins Environmental Services Department wishes to advise the public of a Preventative Boil Water Advisory.

  • Area: Pine Ridge Motel & Trailer Court
  •  Date of Advisory: May 09 2023 until further notice.

The City of Timmins is requiring you to take the following steps:

  • Users of the water supply should bring their water to a rolling boil for one minute prior to consumption;
  • Any water used for cooking/food preparation must be boiled then cooled prior to use; and,
  • All water taps must be posted, indicating that the water is not safe to drink.

The Preventative Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until the sample results confirm the water is fit for human consumption.

For more information, see the Porcupine Health Unit’s Boil Water Advisory page: https://www.porcupinehu.on.ca/en/your-community/safe-water/boil-water-advisories/

Questions or concerns can also be directed to Service Timmins at 705-264-1331 during business hours. After-hours emergencies should be directed to 705-264-1201.

The City of Timmins Environmental Services department wishes to advise the public of hydrant flushing/watermain cleaning activities in the following areas:

  • Areas: Timmins South (on-going), back road into Porcupine, and South Porcupine
  • Time of Disruption: May 10, 2023 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and on going for the month of May

Homeowners and businesses in the affected areas may experience short-term loss in water pressure or experience brown or rust-coloured water following the testing. It is recommended not to drink or wash laundry with the discoloured water. While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn off your tap for 10-20 minutes in order to allow the crew to complete the test. Once the test is complete and the work crew has left the area, turn on the COLD water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal.

City staff would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this necessary process. If there are any questions, concerns or requests for additional information, they may contact the Service Timmins at 705-264-1331. After-hours emergencies should be directed to 705-264-1201.

The City of Timmins Public Works is declaring a Significant Weather Event effective Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 12:01 a.m. and issued under the provisions of the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (O.Reg 239).

According to a Special Weather Statement issued by Environment Canada, conditions are expected to deteriorate overnight with the possibility of 5 to 10 cm of snow or ice pellets, changing to freezing rain on Wednesday morning with ice accretion possible. Strong winds gusts may occur up to 60 km/h and surfaces such as highways, roads, and parking lots may become slippery.

Based on this forecast, we anticipate delays in the plowing and sanding/salting of some city streets and roads along with city sidewalks. Uncertainty remains regarding the track of this weather system, which could change the location of the freezing rain and snowfall amounts. City resources will be deployed when deemed appropriate and when safe to do so.

We also remind residents that the Winter Parking Ban is in effect and parking on the street is not permitted on any day, between the hours of 11:30 pm to 7:30 am, from November 1 through April 30 unless otherwise posted. Residents are also reminded that City BYLAW 1993-4162 does not allow a person to place snow from a person’s property onto the road or sidewalk.

We thank you for your cooperation in this matter. An additional notice will be posted to declare the end of the Significant Weather Event. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
