Construction work will begin this summer on Ice Chest Lake Rd. as part of approved storm-related infrastructure improvements. Council awarded the contract to GIP Interpaving Ltd. in September 2025, with work planned for the following June to September to comply with environmental regulations that protect fish spawning and migration.
The project will include upsizing culverts to improve water flow and raising sections of the roadway to reduce overtopping during high water events. Raising the roadway will help maintain access during periods when culverts are under pressure, like the spring freshet.
In advance of construction, Public Works is actively maintaining the roadway to address current flood conditions, including hauling material, grading, and installing a temporary granular berm to manage water accumulation.
Updates will be provided as necessary once construction work gets underway. For the latest information on road closures and road conditions, residents are encouraged to monitor Municipal 511: www.timmins.ca/our_services/roads_and_infrastructure/municipal_511
