Flags Lowered for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 
The City of Timmins will lower flags at all municipal facilities from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also recognized as Orange Shirt Day, honours survivors of residential schools and the children who never came home. The day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools and the importance of reconciliation.

Municipalities have an important role to play in fostering a culture of truth and reconciliation at the local level. This includes building respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples and communities by considering how municipal decisions, services, and engagement can contribute to meaningful reconciliation.

The City encourages residents to learn, reflect, and consider the role each of us can play in advancing reconciliation in our community.
