Fire Department Responds to Scrap Yard Fire, Reminds Public to Stay Clear of Emergency Scenes
On July 15, 2026, Timmins Fire Department Station 5 responded to a report of an outdoor fire on MacLean Dr. in Timmins. While en route, the call was upgraded to a large fire at a local scrap yard. Additional water tankers from Stations 1, 3, and 4 were dispatched to support response.

Heavy black smoke was visible throughout the community due to the mixed materials burning in the scrap yard. Because of the fire’s location, firefighters had to shuttle water from the corner of MacLean Dr. and J.V. Bonhomme Blvd. to portable water tanks placed on site to maintain continuous water supply.

Water shuttle operations are dangerous and involve large tanker trucks traveling back and forth between the fire scene and the hydrant. These vehicles require clear access to safely manoeuvre. Vehicles parked along roadways, on shoulders, or near emergency scenes can significantly delay emergency operations and create unnecessary hazards for firefighters and the public.

The Timmins Fire Department reminds residents that emergency scenes can change rapidly. Driving towards or stopping near a fire to observe the incident can interfere with emergency response and place both responders and bystanders at risk. When emergency crews are on scene, please avoid travelling toward the area and parking on the road shoulders or access routes. Follow all road closures and directions from emergency personnel. Leave space for emergency vehicles to move safely. Your cooperation helps firefighters focus on protecting lives and property.

If you are inspired by the work of our firefighters, consider joining the team. Annual recruitment drive begins in September.
