Point-in-Time Count on Homelessness 2021

The Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board (CDSSAB) is leading the first Point-in-Time (PiT) Count and By-Name List (BNL), a community-wide initiative to enumerate homelessness in the CDSSAB region.

A PiT Count is a strategy to help determine the extent of homelessness in a community at a single point in time, like a snapshot of homelessness in a 24-hour period with the purpose of better understanding who is homeless, their demographics, and their service needs.

The PiT Count will survey:

- people in emergency shelters and transitional housing

- people who are sheltering out-of-doors (in tents, doorways, or vehicles)

- people in public facilities (hospitals, health facilities, correctional facilities) with no fixed address

A By-Name List (BNL) is an on-going, real-time list of people experiencing homelessness in a community. A BNL can be used to provide a local lens on identifying gaps and connecting people to a range of housing options and appropriate supports. The CDSSAB will use the PiT Count as an opportunity to ensure the comprehensiveness of the BNL of people experiencing homelessness in the CDSSAB region.
