Timmins Transit Study

The City of Timmins is undertaking the Timmins Transit Study: Comprehensive Transit Master Plan to review existing transit services and identify opportunities to improve how transit is planned, delivered, and integrated with the needs of residents, employees, students, seniors, persons with disabilities, community agencies, and other transit users.

 

Background

Timmins Transit plays an important role in helping people move around the community and access employment, education, healthcare, shopping, recreation, community services, and other key destinations.

As Timmins continues to grow and travel needs change, the City is reviewing its transit services to better understand what is working well, where improvements may be needed, and how transit can continue to support the community in the future.

The study will review conventional transit, specialized transit, and on-demand transit services. It will also consider future growth, accessibility, service reliability, customer experience, operating needs, and opportunities to better connect people to destinations across Timmins.

The study will help the City:

  • Understand current transit needs, challenges, and service gaps;
  • Review existing routes, schedules, service levels, and transit performance;
  • Identify opportunities to improve accessibility, reliability, convenience, and customer experience;
  • Consider how transit can better serve key destinations and growing areas;
  • Review the role of specialized and on-demand transit services; and
  • Develop a practical and financially responsible plan for future transit improvements.

 

What work has been completed?

The City has retained Gannett Fleming Canada ULC (GFT) to undertake the Timmins Transit Study. See By-law 2026-9032

Initial project start-up activities are underway, including background information review, data collection, and planning for public and stakeholder engagement.

 

What work is being carried out now?

The project team is currently reviewing existing transit services and preparing engagement materials to collect input from the public, stakeholders, City staff, transit users, and community partners.

Planned engagement activities include:

  • A public online survey for residents, transit users, and other interested members of the community; and
  • A future public open house, anticipated in Spring 2027, to share study findings and receive feedback on the draft recommendations before the study is finalized.

Feedback received through the engagement process will help inform the study findings and recommendations.

 

How to Participate: 

Members of the public and stakeholders are encouraged to participate by completing the online survey beginning June 22, 2026.

The City wants to hear from current transit riders, non-riders, employers, students, seniors, persons with disabilities, community agencies, service providers, and other interested members of the public.
