Preparation of the City's 2026 municipal budget is underway.
The budget is essentially a plan for how we collect and spend money. Most of our revenue comes from property taxes, but we also rely on program and user fees, facility rentals, and other funding sources. Together, this money allows us to deliver the services, programs, and infrastructure you use or rely on every day.
The budget isn't just about balancing numbers. It's about making sure the community's needs are met today, while planning for tomorrow. The budget funds essential services like emergency response, road maintenance, and public transit, while also investing money in the things that make Timmins a great place to live. This includes maintaining our parks and recreational spaces, creating vibrant neighbourhoods, and improving vital transportation networks.
The City's budget touches almost every part of daily life in Timmins, and plays a key role in helping build a strong, sustainable future for our community.
Results of the 2026 Budget Survey
985 survey responses were collected between October 1 – October 30, 2025.
Residents identified safety, roads and sidewalks, recreation, parks and outdoor spaces, and water and sewer as their Top 5 core services.
This year, recreation has emerged as a significant service priority, specifically around youth retention and local quality of life. Arenas and community buildings were top-ranked recreation amenities, followed by pools, aquatic programming, playgrounds, and parks. Many residents expressed strong support for new infrastructure, including a new multi-use aquatic centre, and modernization of the current municipal arenas.
Residents were also clear that accessible public transit, improved road conditions, and snow removal are critical services that directly impact daily comfort and economic participation.
