The City of Timmins is developing a Waste Management Master Plan (WMMP), a long-term, 25-year roadmap that will guide how the City collects, reduces, diverts, and manages waste across our community.
The City has retained Dillon Consulting Limited to undertake the Waste Management Master Plan. See By-law 2026-9343.
Why this Plan Matters
The Deloro Landfill is an irreplaceable community asset. As a highly engineered, carefully managed facility, it plays a critical role in safely protecting our local environment. Planning, approving, and building a new landfill could take more than a decade and cost local taxpayers millions of dollars. Preserving our current space through smart waste planning is vital to protecting your tax dollars, securing our community's financial future, and using our land responsibly.
Our Vision for Waste Management
The WMMP is our strategy to handle waste smarter, reduce what goes into the landfill, and maximize the lifespan of the Deloro Landfill.
Our goal is to build a waste management system that is environmentally responsible, operates efficiently, and is financially sustainable.
We want to build a waste system that works for you. Whether it's improving curbside collection, introducing an organic waste program, or finding options to divert waste, your feedback will directly shape the future of the City's waste programs.
Please note that as of January 1, 2025, the City of Timmins no longer provides curbside collection for residential blue box recycling. Under the province's new framework, Circular Materials has taken over the financial and operational responsibility for the residential blue box program, making producers fully accountable for the end-of-life management of blue box materials.
Curbside residential recycling collection remains an important service to reduce waste at our landfill. Recycling is currently collected by GFL Environmental on behalf of Circular Materials.
